My name is Mike Sharp, since a toddler, making my mark was a must, always drawing what I saw. i excelled in all art classes, but was side tracked from art by life and all other expectations of a real job with real money, with the belief that artistry is not a real job. After a short bout with college, turning down military, I found a job with a company called TIC The Industrial Company, at the age of 19 i started a life long career path, and started a family, had two children of my own and helped raise my step daughter, during that time, every chance i could draw or illustrate on the job in portopotties, study papers, Nec books, they were all tagged up and covered in little illustrations skulls, lettering, and derogatory imagery, so the artist was always there seeping out at every leaky seam.I always enjoyed tattoos, my mom was covered, I wanted them but being raised by my grandfather who was a Military war and combat vet, made it clear I was supposed to be on the clean and narrow path, I was reluctant to cover myself dude to social standards and financial expectations.Fast forward 13 years, i found my self laid off, and airbrushing japanese tattoo imagery in my garage on the cabinets and every panel i could find, with my anthem 155 airbrush. I had a friend who tattooed that noticed my art was kinda okay, suggested I start tattooing for income, it sparked an interest, after a couple years of that little spark causing a deep interest into the craft I finally made up my mind to pursue art, and hopefully pay my bills for it.The all illusive apprenticeship was not attainable for me, at the age of 33. I spent 2-3years trying to figure it out on my own, moved to Houston Texas, found a local shop that would hire me, and then was invited to Join a real experienced shop downtown Spring Called Royal Ave, That is when reality set in, and I realized this craft is way more than just putting tattoos on people for money. Thats when Tattooing as a craft became everything to me.
